The Application of Blood-Pool Contrast Agents in MRA

A Series of Live Visiting Professor Programs

Welcome to "Opportunities for Optimization: The Application of Blood-Pool Contrast Agents in MRA." This CME-certified activity is intended for radiologists, radiology technicians, and radiology technologists. It will be presented live at selected hospitals throughout the US during mid-2011 and early 2012. Click on the Calendar of Live Events to see if it is coming to a hospital near you.

There have been significant improvements over the last decade in imaging technologies used for the diagnostic evaluation of atherosclerotic diseases, creating a performance gap among radiologists who do not take advantage of the latest technological advancements. Despite the recent regulatory approval of a new blood-pool contrast agent for use with magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) of aorto-iliac occlusive disease, radiologists continue to use unapproved extracellular contrast agents. Blood-pool contrast agents are likely to play a greater role in medical imaging and are being evaluated for use in a variety of conditions, including assessment of tumor type in oncology patients.

However, radiologists continue to report low knowledge and competency levels regarding the use of these agents, despite their increasing place in imaging technology. This program is designed to help close the above knowledge and practice gaps and foster wider adoption and implementation of blood-pool contrast-enhanced MRA when appropriate.
